Monday March 14, three men were arrested in the town of Dourges near Lens, because they are suspected of having stolen more than 150,000 euros in fuel, reports France Blue North. Four months of investigation by the Béthune public prosecutor’s office led to the arrest of the suspects, among whom we find a father and his son aged 20 and 42, belonging to the Traveler community.
To commit their misdeeds, they allegedly stole supply cards from trucking companies. Indeed, most trucks have fuel cards to use during the week, but they do not drive on weekends.
On the track since December
Our colleagues explain that the three men are suspected of having stolen these cards directly from the trucks on Friday evening, to go and do as many fraudulent fill-ups as possible during the weekend. According to our colleagues, on the weekend of March 12 and 13, for example, they would have drawn between 50 and 60,000 euros worth of fuel.
Alerted by transport companies in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais, the investigators have been on the trail of the suspects since December. The latter are unfavorably known to the police, a search carried out within their camp notably made it possible to discover new Volkswagen vans.
