LINKÖPING/STOCKHOLM. A man in his 40s is dead after a shooting in Berga in southern Linköping.
– It is a weapon that has been fired. We are working intensively on this, says Johny Gustavsson, press spokesperson at police region East.
At 2:59 p.m., the alarm came in about loud explosions from the Berga district in southern Linköping. The man was found near Berga church. Shortly after 5 p.m., the police confirmed that the man is dead and that next of kin have been notified.
Life-saving measures were started on the spot and the person was taken urgently to Linköping University Hospital.
The police are classifying the incident as a murder.
According to Aftonbladet’s source, a perpetrator has run from the scene.
– If anyone has information, you are welcome to get in touch, says Johnny Gustavsson.

“Quiet area”
The police have cordoned off a large area around the crime scene by the church and also parts of a playground, inside the cordons there is, among other things, a yellow electric scooter.
At half past five, police forensics arrived to investigate the crime scene.
A woman resting her dog near the barriers says:
– This is a very quiet area. I was concerned when I saw about the shooting on our local news page. It’s been a while since something like this happened.
A crowd of curious people and some residents on their way home from work have gathered at the roadblocks. A man says:
– It’s the fifth time you shoot here now in two years. For a while it was shot every two months.

Great police effort
– We collect as much information as possible from witnesses in order to catch up with a suspect or suspected perpetrators. We receive a lot from witnesses, he says.
Several police cars are on site and police officers are both inside and outside the cordons.

The police’s local task force has also, reportedly in full gear, carried out an operation a few kilometers from the crime scene.
– At least eight policemen stormed in. Soon it’s going to explode here, I thought, says a woman who lives at the address.
It is unclear what the outcome of the operation was.
The police are at the hospital to ensure that the staff can work undisturbed, writes the police on their website.
Traffic on Söderleden is said to be affected during the operation.
