The Civil Police of the Federal District (PCDF) arrested a 22-year-old man who is suspected of disclosing in the internet photos of the dead body of singer Marília Mendonça. The case generated commotion and revolt in family members and fans of the artist who died following a plane crash.
As pointed out on the website Metropolises, the suspect used social networks such as Twitter to share records that were carried out by the Legal Medical Institute (IML). In addition to Marília, Cristiano Araújo and Gabriel Diniz would also have been targets of the prisoner.
According to the PCDF, the arrest took place in the municipality of Santa Maria, in the Federal Capital, and the action was carried out by the Special Police Station for the Repression of Cyber Crimes (DRCC) in the so-called “Operation Fenrir”, which began this Monday (17) .
“The action is part of an investigation carried out by this specialized police station that aimed to identify administrators of profiles on social networks that disclosed and shared photos and videos of the body of artistic personalities, such as Marília Mendonça, Cristiano Araújo and Gabriel Diniz, following death”, says the Civil Police of the Federal District in a note.
The authorities highlighted that the detained man must answer for crimes such as vilification of a corpse, that is, disrespecting, desecrating, outraging a body. Article 212 of the Penal Code provides for punishment of one to three years of imprisonment and payment of a fine.
After the images leaked, artists used social networks to criticize the circulation of photos and ask for respect for the singer. The mother of singer Marília Mendonça used social networks to express indignation following photos of her daughter’s autopsy were leaked on the internet on Thursday (13).
