BERLIN, Germany.— Yesterday, Saturday, German authorities arrested a libyan man with alleged links to the Islamic State extremist group who was allegedly planning an attack on the Israeli embassy in Berlin.
Police and other security forces arrested the man last night in Bernauoutside Berlin, and searched his home there, the federal prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
The office detailed that the suspect was a Libyan citizen whom they identified only as Omar A.

“He intended to carry out a high-profile firearms attack against the Israeli embassy in Berlin,” the statement said, adding that “the accused exchanged information with a member of the Islamic State in a messaging chat.” .
Security forces also searched the home of another person who is considered a witness and not a suspect, according to the prosecutor’s office statement.

Israeli Ambassador Ron Prosor thanked authorities “for guaranteeing the security of our embassy,” the news agency reported.
The prosecutor’s office reported that the suspect would be brought before a judge at the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe on Sunday.
Bild newspaper was the first to report that a heavily armed elite police unit stormed the suspect’s apartment in Bernau and that police also raided an apartment in the western German city of Sankt Augustin in connection with the case. .
Bild reported that authorities acted after receiving a tip from an unspecified foreign intelligence agency.
“We are acting with the utmost vigilance and attention in light of the great threat posed by Islamist, anti-Semitic and anti-Israel violence,” Faeser declared.
