The restaurant industry is going through difficult days. Some high-profile bankruptcies have recently left their mark. Mecca of gastronomy in the canton of Vaud, Le Pont de Brent, above Montreux, was forced to close its doors last November. The famous address formerly run by Gérard Rabaey was faced with a drop in attendance and the young couple who took over the brand had to throw in the towel in the face of accumulating debts.
In Neuchâtel, the bankruptcy filing at the end of January of the Maison des Halles, located in a prestigious building in the city center, caused astonishment. At issue: financial problems initially linked to the difficulty of finding staff, relates Arcinfo. Bistro owners are navigating between increasing charges, repayment of covid loans and a fluctuating clientele. “I feel the concern of our members,” notes the president of GastroVaud, Gilles Meystre. A restaurant that does not have a clear positioning has little chance of survival.”
