“Survey Results: Flemish Voter Perspectives on Democracy, Leaders & Power”

Most of those interviewed place importance on living in a democracy. 8 Flemings questioned out of 10 are in this case.

But the way in which democratic power is exercised satisfies them less and obtains only a score of 5.2 out of 10.

Moreover, 60% of those questioned would be in favor of entrusting power to experts rather than to personalities from the political world.

35% of respondents say they are in favor of a “strong leader”. Among voters in Vooruit, this percentage drops to 28%. Among those from Vlaams Belang, it rises to 47%.

16% of Flemings polled say they are in favor of the exercise of power by the army. 24% of Vlaams Belang voters are of this view.

This survey of Flemish voters echoes a comparable survey carried out a few months ago by RTBF and La Libre. At the end of 2022, the survey “Bye Bye, democracy?” came to very similar conclusions. There too, entrusting power to a strong leader appealed to 39.5% of the Francophone voters surveyed. Dissatisfaction with the different levels of power was also growing.
