This study, carried out by Seproba on a total of more than 256 technicians from the sector, was already advanced last November during the celebration of the 1st Animal Welfare Symposium, organized by the beef interprofessional, Try oneand the sheepmeat interprofessionals in Hungary, JTT, and in Spain, Interovicwithin the European Animal Welfare program, co-financed by funds from the European Commission.
The information extracted is intended to define the position of agents in the livestock sector regarding the quality of life with which animals are raised on farms, as well as to know the resources used to keep the consumer informed. The survey, made up of 12 questions, collects various opinions on the importance of guaranteeing animal welfare for farm animals.
conclusions
The survey has been a participation success with 256 valid responses, which provide a lot of information. All the segments of activity studied and in both sexes, declare a lot of interest in animal welfare on the farm. The demand for animal welfare is prioritized for livestock reasons, rather than for philosophical ones, according to what was declared by people linked to the sector. Outsiders, on the other hand, have no interest in the livestock consequences. People linked to the sector are not clear regarding the relationship between productivity and animal welfare, even farmers show some skepticism regarding the benefits of proposals for animal welfare and even the influence of the facilities on it. It is necessary to improve the knowledge of the livestock reality that people outside the sector have, so that they can better assess the incidence of the proposals on animal welfare on issues of management, productivity, health, trade and the guarantees of the offer in the decision. de compra The responses state that the certificate in animal welfare is a good image tool for the sector, although the messages related to the welfare of farm animals are being transmitted poorly. People outside the sector (net consumers) show interest in the guarantees offered by the accreditation, estimating what a stamp accredited in Spain by ENAC provides.
