It’s a surreal situation. A family from Toulougesnear Perpignan, received an exorbitant electricity bill of 232 672 euros. Nicolas Barthe, the mayor of this commune in the Pyrénées-Orientales, took charge in person of resolving the situation.

EDF turns a deaf ear

Unable to pay this aberrant bill of 232,672 euros, the family was deprived of electricity from Friday September 15. A hard blow for this grandmother who occupies her home with her daughter and her 9-year-old grandson.

Faced with the operator’s inflexibility, the family decided to sound the alert, as revealed by our colleagues atInfOccitanie. Requested by News PerpignanNicolas Barthe announces that he has taken charge of the matter.

The mayor of Toulouges is mobilizing

Informed of the situation, the councilor made contact with the main stakeholders. The mayor of Toulouges made the link between the family and their electricity supplier (EDF Particulier).

In an official press release released this Tuesday, September 19, his counterpart in Perpignan, Louis Aliot, took up this matter. “These situations are unfortunately becoming far too frequent. The rise in energy costs, the decline in purchasing power, inflation, have brought in their wake Kafkaesque situations,” chants the elected official.

An aberrant invoice linked to a computer bug?

This Tuesday, September 19, at 9 p.m., the power was finally back in the home.

“The situation is normally resolved, the family will be offered a coherent bill within the next few days,” announces Nicolas Barthe. How might such an invoice have been issued? According to the elected official, it was a computer bug.

A distraught family

Requested by News Perpignan, the Gomez family wanted to react to this affair. Marie, the daughter of the owner of the accommodation, does not hide her anger.

Since they had no qualms regarding asking us for such an amount, I would have no qualms regarding demanding compensation for the same amount.

“It will be for the loss of our fridges, our three freezers, for having seen my son do his homework using a flashlight and especially for all the worry they caused my mother who did two heart attack. Health is priceless,” proclaims Marie Gomez, daughter of the owner of the accommodation.

8,000 euros bill in one day

A month ago, EDF tried three times to take 8 000 euros to the Gomez family. “My mother was quick to reject it. This generated bank charges. »

Unfortunately, this is just the beginning of a long line of inconsistencies. “There is no meter reading on these invoices,” explains Marie Gomez. On one of the receipts, the invoicing is dated from 03/15 to 03/15. Or 8,000 euros in costs for one day. »

A bottle thrown into the sea

Thanks to the support of the mayors of Perpignan and Toulouges and the MP Sandrine Dogor-Such, the family is gradually getting back on track. “EDF has restored power, it’s a first victory,” consoles Marie Gomez.

The slate is not yet wiped clean because the bills remain: “We still have to pay almost 230 000 eurosthe problem is not resolved,” alerts the occupant of the accommodation.

Bills that don’t make sense

Accessing her EDF space has become a real headache for the young woman. “This morning, I tried to connect to my EDF customer area, the site is not working! Every day the amounts and dates indicated on the invoices are modified. We never get the same grades,” fumes the mother.

According to her, EDF sticks to its positions: “It is not for lack of having taken steps with the EDF mediator who remained silent,” adds the Toulougienne who is not yet at the end of her troubles.
