Surreal in a street of Anderlecht: a speed bump condemned by pickets

The situation is funny to say the least and has caused a lot of ink to flow in the municipality of Anderlecht. It is located a stone’s throw from the Brussels canal, rue des Colombophiles. Speed cushions (which some call speed bumps) have just been condemned by pickets. Now impossible to roll over, and therefore the closet their raison d’être.

A surprising development, which the mayor wishes to explain by recalling the history of the place. For several years, residents have complained regarding the excessive speed of vehicles in this small residential street. The municipality therefore had speed bumps installed. But then new nuisances appeared…”Bus 75 passes by. Residents complained of vibrations in their homes”says Fabrice Cumps (PS).

In Anderlecht, a Lidar installed in a limited street… at 10 km/h

To maintain an obstacle to speeding and stem these new nuisances, the municipality has therefore changed its tune. Farewell to the Berlin cushions, place to chicanes. But the speed humps being firmly anchored in the road, it was not possible to remove them without substantial work. Result: the rapid installation of bollards around the cushions. “It’s transient. The situation has improved, and local residents thank us”comments the mayor, according to whom the situation will be rectified during a future redevelopment.
