The price of an UBER ride can sometimes skyrocket, even for a ride of a few miles, to the point of surprising Uber’s CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi.
This is during a one-on-one interview with the magazine’s editor Wired that the CEO made the detour.
In order to meet Mr Khosrowshahi, journalist Steven Levy took an Uber from his New York apartment for a 4.7 km journey. For this little race, he got the modest sum of US$51.69, or CA$69.04.
“The fees charged by the carpooling company have been higher in recent years and fluctuate anyway, but this was crazy,” the editor pointed out in his article.
When he arrived for the interview, he then asked the CEO of Uber to estimate the cost of this trip, who replied $20.
After correcting it, Mr. Khosrowshahi was surprised. “Oh my God. Wow,” he reacted.
According to the boss of the transport service, inflation would play on the increase in prices.
“The weekly income of our drivers has increased by 40 to 50% over the last four years,” he also added.
According to the magazine Wiredhowever, Uber’s fares would have increased four times faster than the rate of inflation.
