L’Avenir was able to obtain more information on this arrest, first via the surprising testimony of a tourist who rubbed shoulders with the fugitive for several days (read here), but also thanks to the autonomous police of Catalonia, contacted by our care this Wednesday, June 28, 2023.
“It was 1:50 p.m. on Monday June 26 when one of our patrols noticed a young man walking shirtless in the middle of the town of Montblanc (Editor’s note: province of Tarragona, just over an hour away road from Barcelona) “, details the communication service of the “Mossos d’Esquadra”, the Catalan police. “Our men were surprised, because it is unusual to see an unknown individual in that corner of the village (Editor’s note: 7,400 inhabitants) walking around bare-chested. They therefore carried out a routine check. The facts took place on avenue Doctor Folch, in Montblanc.”

And the banal identity check to turn into a miraculous catch. “The man declined his true identity, without putting up any resistance. Proceeding with the check, our patrol then received a Schengen alert, accompanied by a European arrest warrant targeting this gentleman…”, namely Adrien Rompen.
He is currently in Madrid
In their official communication, the police therefore do not mention the phone call allegedly made by French tourists (see elsewhere) but the time of the arrest (1:50 p.m.) corresponds.
“On our side, it was really via a routine check that we came across him. He was arrested calmly. As to where he came from and what he intended to do, we don’t know. nothing and it is not our responsibility”, we conclude on the side of the Spanish authorities who specify that since this Wednesday, June 28, 2023, Adrien Rompen is in Madrid to be heard by justice and organize the following: his return to Belgium.
