Bad surprise for the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA: The team around superstars Giannis Antetokounmpo and noble newcomer Damian Lillard unexpectedly lost their second home game of the season. The Bucks suffered a 110:127 defeat against the previously winless Atlanta Hawks.
Lillard in particular was completely disappointing; after his gala start to the season against the Philadelphia 76ers (39 points), he managed a measly six points against the Hawks. The 33-year-old only converted a shocking two of his twelve attempts from the field. Antetokounmpo managed 26 points and eleven rebounds, but could not prevent the defeat.
It was also an unsuccessful evening for the Los Angeles Lakers. In the California duel against the Sacramento Kings, the Lakers lost 127:132 and suffered their second defeat of the season.
LeBron James (27 points, 15 rebounds) and Anthony Davis (30 points, 16 rebounds) were in strong form, but De’Aaron Fox with 37 points led the Kings to a home win.
There was nothing to gain for the San Antonio Spurs around super rookie Victor Wembanyama in their guest appearance at the Lakers’ local rivals, the Los Angeles Clippers. The Clippers clearly won 123:83. “Wemby” had to be content with eleven points, but the rest of the team didn’t step into the breach either.
Things went much better for the Philadelphia 76ers, who celebrated an easy 126:98 win against the Portland Trail Blazers thanks to an outstanding Joel Embiid. Embiid had 35 points and 15 rebounds, and with seven assists he narrowly missed the triple-double.
However, Embiid could also rely on plenty of support from his teammates. Tyrese Maxey contributed 26 points and Tobias Harris finished the game with 24 points.
Warriors professional Paul comes off the bench for the first time
Like the 76ers, the Golden State Warriors also have two wins after their third game. In the away game at the Houston Rockets, the former champions won 106:95. Top star Stephen Curry scored 24 points.
The game was a novelty for Chris Paul. For the first time ever in his 19-year career, the Warriors pro only came off the bench. Previously, he had always been in the starting five in 1,365 games in which he took part.
