Surprising leaders in the Regional and Upper Austrian League

The amateur team of SV Guntamatic Ried is following in the footsteps of the professionals in the 2nd football league: the second team is also leading the table in the Regionalliga Mitte after two match days.

This was not foreseeable even at this early stage of the season – especially since coach Julian Baumgartner’s team had to fight to avoid relegation until the last matchday last season. In the 4-2 home win against newly promoted Askö Oedt, the Vikings struck late: In the 92nd minute, Bayern loanee Loiange Delphin Ondoa Belinga scored the lead goal again, and three minutes later Mateo Zetic made it 4-2.

For some Trauners, the duel in Ried was still a special thing: Gerald Baumgartner led the Vikings back to the Bundesliga in 2020 as second division champion coach, and was now a Alex Reed as Oedt’s sports director. With Arne Ammerer, Jonas Rossdorfer and the Brazilian Valdir, some ex-Rieders were also on the ball for Oedt.

In the Upper Austrian League, the current league leader also comes from the Innviertel: Coach Christoph Mühllechner’s team managed to win their second game in two with a 3-1 victory against the otherwise strong home team SPG Weißkirchen/Allhaming. The leader from Braunau has thus managed to reverse the trend compared to the end of the previous season: Ostermiething had lost six of its last nine games. “We played one of the best away games since I became coach here,” said Ostermiething coach Mühllechner proudly.

Title candidate Mondsee is still waiting for its first full success. At least: As in the first round against St. Martin/M., the Plasser team also managed to get a 2-2 draw in the derby against Bad Ischl after trailing 0-2.
