At the end of the 2021-22 season, the Bruins caused a major upset by firing head coach Bruce Cassidy. This one didn’t do badly, but it didn’t bring Boston to the promised land.
The Knights took advantage of this surprising dismissal to hire him. And let’s say that his first season at the helm of the team was a great success.

In the Bruins locker room, Cassidy was highly regarded. Moreover, when he returned to Boston, the players went to see him following the game. His dismissal really took everyone by surprise.
Still, I’m sure his former players are happy with his success in Nevada. Moreover, Patrice Bergeron told Mark Stone that if Vegas hired Cassidy, he would win the Stanley Cup. The Quebecer therefore predicted it.
George McPhee tells the story that Kelly McCrimmon asked Mark Stone to call Patrice Bergeron before they hired Bruce Cassidy.
Bergeron told Stone, “If Vegas hired Bruce, they’ll win the Stanley Cup next year.”

I imagine that the captain of Vegas, whose career is in danger, relayed the words of Bergeron and that the senior management was convinced.
Boston is not going to complain: he has behind his bench an excellent coach in Jim Montgomery. He led the best regular season team in NHL history. Yes, the team was very talented on paper, but one wonders if the Bruins had the same kind of season under another coach.
In six seasons with Boston, the now Cup-champion coach has made the playoffs every season. In 2018-2019, he even made it to the Stanley Cup final. Moreover, the following year, he won the Jack Adams trophy awarded to the best coach in the NHL.
Other than the season the team reached the Stanley Cup Finals (and lost), Boston has only made it past the second round. And a talented team like that shouldn’t have such trouble in the playoffs. Maybe that’s what led to his downfall.
