Surprising developments offer some car owners a golden opportunity

But for some car owners, a financially attractive opportunity has arisen because prices behave differently than they usually do.

Especially the owners of the otherwise disgraced diesel cars can now surprisingly see the prices of newer used diesel cars rise violently. That’s what Berlingske writes.

In fact, diesel cars up to eight years old have risen between 20 and 40 percent in price, depending on the make and model, says Jan Lang, market analyst at Bilbasen.

This is mainly due to the fact that diesel cars can be sold at sharply rising prices abroad, where the demand for electric cars is far less than at home.

– It is good for the Danes who have seen massive price drops on their diesel cars. In virtually all of Europe there is demand, says Jan Lang to Berlingske.

The petrol cars behave in the same way

Second-hand petrol cars have also increased in price in a most unusual way.

On some of the best-selling models – including the Peugeot 208, Kia Ceed and VW Up – between 3 and 4 percent.

The used car market yearns for newer petrol cars, where supply is low and demand is high.

This spreads to both prices and storage times and has therefore led to some of the newer petrol cars actually becoming more valuable. The exact opposite of what you normally see.

The consequence is also that many petrol and diesel car owners are in a favorable situation if they consider switching to an electric car.

Since the fourth quarter of 2021, used electric cars have become a good 31 percent cheaper. They have never cost less, shows the latest figures from Bilbasen.dk.

In other words: the time to switch from a newer petrol or diesel car to an electric car has never been better – if you are interested in it.

According to Jan Lang, an increasing number of low-cost electric cars are imported from ‘overproducing’ car manufacturers.

Partly because they have to meet CO2 requirements from the EU, partly because they have difficulty getting rid of their electric cars in a number of European countries and are therefore looking towards Denmark, where electric cars make up half of private car sales.
