The dismissal of Julian Nagelsmann as coach of FC Bayern Munich came as a surprise to many – apparently also to the coach himself.
The 35-year-old was apparently on a skiing holiday when the German specialist magazine “kicker” reached him on Thursday evening. When asked if he had heard anything from the club, the German replied: “No, not yet.” He learned from the media that he had lost his job.
A meeting with the Bayern bosses is only planned for this Friday. A successor should already be determined. According to media reports, Thomas Tuchel will start work in Munich on Monday.
In recent months, an open power struggle with captain Manuel Neuer could have damaged Nagelsmann’s internal standing. Because of a 1: 2 in Leverkusen on Sunday, the record champions lost the championship lead to Borussia Dortmund. The new leader is a guest in Munich on Saturday.
