From zero to hero

Actually, the tournament for the boys of the LA Guerrillas was already under a bad star on the first Thursday. In their first game once morest Boston Breach, they lost by a clear 3-0 and were relegated to the lower bracket of the tournament. While most eyes were on Atlanza FaZe, OpTic Texas and host Minnesota RØKKR, it was not until late in the game that many realized what a comeback LA Guerrillas were making in the Losers Round.

After a botched start, they seemed to have found their form in their second and third matches on Friday once morest Toronto Ultra (3-1) and London Royal Ravens (3-0). The Guerrillas were able to continue their run in the third round of the Losers Round and beat Seattle Surge 3:2. History was to be made on the last day of the tournament.

While Atlanta FaZe lived up to their reputation as one of the best CDL teams and had already advanced to the finals by beating Boston Breach, their opponent was yet to be determined. After the LA Guerrillas celebrated their fourth win in the lower bracket of the tournament once morest the Floria Mutineers (3:2), people slowly began to realize what a sensation might be. Boston Breach was also unable to convert his second chance at the finals and was defeated 3-2 by the LA Guerrillas’ unstoppable comeback.

It was bound to happen

The underdogs only needed to win once more to complete their dream of victory and their place in the history books. None other than the currently best team still had a say. The final between Atlanza FaZe and the LA Guerillas was probably not on anyone’s screen. In the best of 9 format, the guys from Atlanta FaZe were able to prevail in the first match (hard point) with a difference of more than 100 points. But following that it was over for the time being and the guerrillas took over the scepter.

The LA Guerrillas were able to win the next four maps and put their opponents under enormous pressure. FaZe won the sixth map once more, but the joy of winning Tuscan in the control game mode was short-lived. It was now 4-2 to the Guerrillas and the next game was a match point for the underdogs from Los Angeles.

What had to happen happened, on the Berlin map in Search and Destroy mode the LA Guerrillas were able to fulfill their dream of the championship and won once morest Atlanta FaZe 6:4. The end result of the game was 5:2 and visibly enthusiastic fans cheered the winners with chants. The LA Guerrillas racked up an incredible six straight wins, making for one of the greatest comebacks in CDL history.
