On September 3, 2022, the Dowager Princess of Tarnovo married Prince Ghazi bin Mohammad, a first cousin of King Abdullah II. This is a remarriage for both bride and groom. King Abdullah II was present at the civil wedding.

Remarriage of Princess Miriam of Tarnovo to Prince Ghazi of Jordan
Princess Miriam of Tarnovo, born Miriam Ungría y López, married the first cousin of King Abdullah II of Jordan on Saturday. Miriam is the daughter-in-law of King Simeon II of Bulgaria, widow of Prince Kardam, heir to the last king of Bulgaria. His son, the Prince Boris, Prince de Tarnovo is the current dynastic heir of his grandfather.

Princess Miriam of Bulgaria has been a widow since 2015. Prince Kardam, the first of five children of King Simeon II and Queen Margarita, died aged 52. In 2008, he was the victim of a car accident from which he never recovered, until his death almost seven years later. Miriam and Kardam had two sons, Prince Boris and Prince Beltran, in 1997 and 1999. Although remaining of the Catholic faith, Miriam married into the Orthodox faith. The marriage to Prince Ghazi was civil and it does not appear that a conversion to Islam took place.

Prince Ghazi bin Mohammad, 55, is the son of Prince Mohammad bin Talal, one of King Talal’s sons. Prince Ghazi’s uncle was King Hussein, father of the current King Abdullah II. Prince Ghazi, a graduate in literature at Princeton University and then in modern languages and medieval literature at Cambridge, married Areej Zawawi in 1997. They are the parents of Princess Tasneem, Prince Abdullah, Princess Jennah and Princess Salsabeel, born between 1999 and 2014. In May 2021, a statement from the Royal Hashemite Court announced a title change for Princess Areej Ghazi to Princess Areej bint Omar Al Zawawi, a typical title that reveals a divorce.

The day before the wedding, September 2, the day of the 59th birthday of the Princess Dowager of Tarnovo, Miriam went with her two sons to the memorial erected in memory of Prince Kardam, on the banks of the Jordan.
