It’s not really a surprise and the decision is ultimately not surprising. Installed in Delhaize stores for several years, the automatic terminals that allow customers to scan their items themselves to save a little time left less and less room for cash. Now there will be none at all.
As announced by the DH, Delhaize has indeed decided to completely ban cash from its automatic terminals. “This has been the case for all stores since January 15,” explains the spokesperson for the brand to our colleagues. For people who want to use their banknotes and coins, it will be necessary to turn to conventional cash registers.
The reasons given behind this choice are “security problems” and “technical” since the current cash registers will be replaced by new ones incompatible with cash.
