Suresh Raina Returns to Cricket: Excitement Builds for Lankan Premier League Auction

Colombo: Indian cricketer Suresh Raina, who earlier announced his retirement from active cricket, is returning to cricket. Raina has registered for the upcoming Lankan Premier League star auction. Raina recently played in the Legends Cricket League.

After MS Dhoni in IPL, Suresh Raina was the face of Chennai Super Kings. CSK fans used to describe Raina as Chinnathala. Raina, who announced his retirement in September last year, made his debut as a commentator in the recent IPL. Thirty-six-year-old Raina Lankan is returning to the Premier League following withdrawing his decision to retire from active cricket. Raina has also registered his name in tomorrow’s star auction in Colombo.

The Lankan Premier League will start on July 31. Raina has been a part of four IPL titles for Chennai Super Kings and has scored 4687 runs in 176 games for the team. Raina captained the Gujarat Lions for two seasons when CSK faced a ban following the match-fixing scandal. Raina scored 5500 runs in IPL. Raina has scored 768 runs in 18 Tests, 5615 runs in 226 ODIs and 1605 runs in 78 T20Is for India. Raina is also the first Indian player to score a century in international T20.

Raina is going to play in the Lankan Premier League following the BCCI’s rule that he can play in foreign leagues only following retirement. Former Under-19 captain Unmukt Chind Harpreet Singh and others have announced their retirement from international cricket and joined foreign leagues. Yuvraj Singh and Robin Uthappa have also played overseas following retiring from all formats of cricket. Irfan Pathan, Munaf Patel, Sudeep Tyagi and Manpreet Goni are Indian players who have played in the Lankan Premier League before.
