Kochi: The High Court granted anticipatory bail to actor and BJP leader Suresh Gopi in the case of insulting a journalist. The court directed the police to release him on bail if he is arrested. The court had directed the government to state its position on the petition. The government informed the court that there is no situation for arrest at present.
Suresh Gopi had filed an anticipatory bail petition in the case where serious charges were also imposed in the case. In the anticipatory bail application, it was said that the charge of insulting womanhood (IPC Section 354) has also been charged and as it is a non-bailable offense punishable with imprisonment of up to five years, it is feared that he will be arrested.
In the bail application, it was also alleged that the reason for filing the case was the enmity with which a protest march was held from Karuvannur to Thrissur for the investors who lost money in the Karuvannur bank fraud case. The daughter’s wedding is scheduled to be held on January 17 in Guruvayur and a reception in Thiruvananthapuram. Celebrities from the field of cinema and politics are participating in the event.
