Supreme Court asks where Shiva lingam is; UP government without reply | National | Deshabhimani

New Delhi
The Supreme Court has asked the exact location of the place where the Shiva lingam was found in Jnanavapi. The question came after Solicitor General Thushar Mehta, appearing for the UP government, argued that the Shiva lingam was the place where the body is purified before prayers.

But Mehta did not have the right answer. The court then dismissed the argument. The Varanasi district court had removed Ajay Mishra, who had been appointed as the survey commissioner of the church, for fear of criticism from the Supreme Court. The action alleges that the survey information was leaked. The church committee had earlier registered a no-confidence motion against Ajay Mishra. The court gave two days to submit the report. Thushar Mehta said that the argument of Hussein Ahmadi, who appeared for the mosque committee that all proceedings, including the survey, should be stayed till Thursday, was newsworthy. This led to controversy. The order was issued by the Sangh Parivar, which had spread rumors that a Shiva lingam had been found in the pool. A similar move was made to the Babri Masjid, claiming that there were temple ruins inside the walls of the mosque and that prayers should be held throughout the year. However, the church committee says that what was found in the name of Shivalinga was the fountain in the pond.
