The Beato José Gregorio Hernández Medical Center in the San Martín de Porres parish, in San Félix, has more than six specialists and a free pharmacy to care for the most vulnerable families.

Carlos Mata, coordinator of the health center, estimates that more than 100 people are attended to per week; for example, internal medicine sees up to 50 patients, another 40 children in pediatrics and gynecology receive a little more.

They also offer trauma and homeopathy consultations, among others, from 7:00 in the morning to 6:00 in the afternoon by appointment.

Mata clarified that the medical center does not manage a budget, all the treatment is under donations by individuals, NGOs, they even receive three to four shipments a year from Spain to support the vulnerable community of Brisas del Sur and surrounding sectors.

They have also supported the delivery of medicines to patients in Puerto Ordaz, Ciudad Bolívar and Upata from the pharmacy.

Clinic

The projection of the medical center is to turn it into a clinic for the benefit of the disadvantaged sector. Mata stated that this year they estimate the construction of the first aid room to nebulize, administer intravenous serum and sutures, among others.

“The goal is the clinic and we are integrating different services,” Mata highlighted, mentioning that they have been operating for a year and a half, but the facilities are already becoming too small in the middle of the conferences.

“The parish not only has the medical center, but also the school that goes from preschool to high school, four community kitchens distributed throughout the neighborhood, a religious radio station, a training center for the boys to learn a trade, all of this under the direction of Father Carlos Ruíz”, added Mata.
