On behalf of the Pope, the Catholic Church worldwide prays for the world’s poorest dioceses on “World Mission Sunday” and collects donations. More than 100 national pontifical mission societies on all continents support the social and pastoral work of the Church in the 1,100 poorest dioceses in the world. The focus country of the fundraising campaign for World Mission Sunday, which will be carried out in parishes or online in 2023, is India. The country is around 40 times larger than Austria and has around 1.42 billion people. Christians are only a small minority and make up around 2.3 percent.
