Elaf from London: Britain affirmed its continued support to the Lebanese Army, which is essential to ensuring Lebanon’s stability and protecting the Lebanese people in these difficult times.
During a one-day visit, a first to Lebanon, on Tuesday, British Armed Forces Minister and Member of Parliament James Hebey briefed on how British projects are supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces in their mission to maintain stability across Lebanon.
Minister Hebei met with Defense Minister Maurice Selim and Army Commander General Joseph Aoun, accompanied by British Ambassador to Lebanon Dr. Ian Collard and Military Attache at the British Embassy Lt. Col. Lee Saunders. During his meetings, Minister Hebei discussed military cooperation between the United Kingdom and Lebanon.

On a visit to the 3rd Land Border Regiment in the Bekaa on the border with Syria, Minister Hebei heard from senior Lebanese officers how the UK’s work in strengthening the capabilities of the border regiments has improved efforts to combat cross-border smuggling and terrorist activities, making the area safer for local communities . British support enabled the deployment of four border regiments, the construction of over 78 border towers, the provision of 350 Land Rovers, 100 armored patrol vehicles, and the training of more than 20,000 Lebanese Armed Forces personnel.

At the conclusion of his visit, Minister Hebei said: The United Kingdom and Lebanon are friends and partners. I was proud to see the positive impact of the military cooperation between our two countries that spanned over a decade.
He added: “In times of need, the UK stands side by side with Lebanon and with our partners around the world to address common challenges. It is more important than ever, in these international circumstances, that we continue to work together to combat threats to global peace and security. I very much enjoyed my first visit to this beautiful country and I hope to return.”
For his part, British Ambassador to Lebanon Dr. Ian Collard said: “I am delighted to host the Minister of the Armed Forces, James Hebby, on his first visit to Lebanon. The Lebanese Army is essential to ensuring Lebanon’s stability and protecting the Lebanese people in these difficult times.
