The Akhannouch executive invites banks to support Moroccan investors wishing to import Russian diesel, on the grounds that “there are difficulties”. An appeal signed, Thursday, May 11, by the Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament, government spokesperson, Mustapha Baïtas.

“The government is treating this issue in the same way as other import-related issues. There are no laws prohibiting the import of Russian diesel,” he said. Baïtas recalled that Aziz Akhannouch “has already tackled this file”, referring to the declarations made by the head of government during his visit on Monday May 8 to the House of Representatives. “There is no problem importing Russian products,” he insisted.

As a reminder, last March during a meeting of the Finance Committee, the president of the RNI group in the Lower House of Parliament, Mohamed Ghayate, revealed that representatives of fuel distribution companies had asked to ” support financially” their Russian diesel import operations, in a letter addressed to the Wali of Bank Al Maghrib.

During the month of March, Morocco accounted for 12% of all Russian diesel deliveries, ahead of Tunisia and Algeria which imported 10% and 8% respectively, according to counts by the Russian analytical agency Naans-média. . In total, the three Maghreb countries imported 30% of the fuel from Russia. The largest volume (33%) was purchased by Turkey.
