Supporter Anderlecht died during the match against Cercle Brugge: “Football suddenly irrelevant”

Particularly sad news following Anderlecht – Cercle Brugge. During the first half, a Purple & White supporter had to be resuscitated, he later died in the hospital. An upset Brian Riemer spoke of “a sad evening”.

The news of the supporter’s death only filtered through following the match. During halftime, a certain part of the main stand was closed due to medical intervention.

Trainer Brian Riemer shared the sad news followingwards in his interview with Eleven DAZN and expressed his condolences.

“It’s a sad evening,” he said. “We have a fan who has passed away. He became unwell during the first half and later died in hospital. Our thoughts go out to the family. Football has suddenly become irrelevant.”
