The international news agency AFP reported, quoting the local media, Mizan Online News, that prominent people, including Alidosti, have been questioned or arrested. The film ‘The Salesman’ won the Oscar in 2016. Alidosti’s film ‘Leila’s Brothers’ was screened at the Cannes Film Festival this year.

On December 8, Ali Dosti posted a note on social media in support of the protesters. The arrest was made in the name of this note. Meanwhile, on November 9, the actress showed her solidarity with the protest by sharing a picture of herself without a face covering on Instagram. A picture of Alidosti was released holding a board with ‘Women, Life, Freedom’, one of the main slogans of the anti-government protesters. She has temporarily stopped acting to support the families of those who died in the agitation.

The 27th International Film Festival held in Thiruvananthapuram also saw support for the protests in Iran. Director Mehnas Mohammadi, who fights for women’s rights in Iran, received the Spirit of Cinema award at IFFK. Greek filmmaker and jury member Athena Rachel Sangari received the award on behalf of Mehnas, who was unable to attend the fair due to the travel ban. Rachel Sangari showed solidarity with the protest by showing Mehnas’ cut hair on stage.
