During the General Assembly of the RPG Arc-en-ciel this Saturday, October 5, 2024, the former Minister of Commerce spoke on the issue of youth within the country’s political bodies. His speech, marked by criticism of current discourse on the representation of young people in the transitional government, caused a sensation.

According to Marc Yombouno, numerous movements and support groups are multiplying claiming to speak on behalf of Guinean youth, but without real legitimacy. “There are so many movements supporting groups everywhere that speak on behalf of youth. There are even some who think that we must exclude the old class, the elders. But who really speaks on behalf of young people? Are these really young people? », he asks.

He recalls that under the African Youth Charter, adopted by the African Union, a young person is defined as a person aged 15 to 35 years. However, he believes that this definition is too often ignored in current discussions. “Today, all we hear is that Alpha has not integrated young people, that the entire current government is young. But can you name three people out there who are under 35 who speak on behalf of youth? “, he launched, openly castigating the blatant “manipulations”.

Marc Yombouno also questioned the integrity of current officials who, according to him, are above the age required to be qualified as young people. He invites those over 35 to resign to prove their legitimacy and urges verification of birth certificates to shed light on the situation.

The former minister also wanted to defend the record of youth under the presidency of Alpha Condé. “During the era of Alpha Condé, there were ministers appointed who were not yet 30 years old, like Dormany Doré. There were very young ministers. We ourselves entered the government, and we were not yet 40 years old. » He adds that many young people have occupied strategic positions in the management of public finances, notably those of the generation of the 80s, the “518”.

This close friend of Alpha Condé called for a “more serious and more honest debate” on the issue of youth in the country, insisting on the need to include all age groups in building the nation. “How can we today talk about youth and say that Alpha has not worked on it? […] The nation is all of these people, of different age groups. People don’t know the history of the country,” he concluded.
