The Muco association, mobilized for people suffering from cystic fibrosis in Belgium, is launching its new collection of socks on Monday on the occasion of the European week dedicated to this disease. This year, the “mucosocks” are decorated with patterns inspired by the work “Love Goes Around” by Princess Delphine.

In Belgium, 1,379 people are currently fighting once morest cystic fibrosis, recalls the Muco association in a press release. The symptoms of this disease, still incurable today, have a heavy impact on the daily life of those affected and must undergo treatment which can take up to four hours a day.

Recurrent lung infections and inflammation greatly reduce the respiratory capacity of people with cystic fibrosis. They also often suffer from serious digestive problems. The average life expectancy of people with cystic fibrosis is between 45 and 54 years, explains the Muco association.

This is taking advantage of European Cystic Fibrosis Week from November 20 to 26 to carry out its fundraising campaign through the sale of socks. These colorful stockings for children or adults can be ordered online for 10 euros, via the campaign website (www.mucoweek.be). The profits from the sale of these socks are dedicated to financing research once morest cystic fibrosis in Belgium.

“In recent years, considerable progress has been made in the treatment of cystic fibrosis. The quality and life expectancy of people with cystic fibrosis have improved thanks to new drugs. But we are still far from there,” said the director of the Muco association, Stefan Joris. “Scientific research aimed at improving the effectiveness of treatments and one day curing cystic fibrosis remains essential.”
