How to receive a supplementary benefit of PLN 500 for a dependent person

The right to a supplementary benefit is established at the request of the interested person submitted to the authority paying the pension benefit (KRUS, ZUS, etc.). In the case of persons receiving a retirement or disability pension from KRUS, the application together with appropriate documents should be submitted to the organizational unit of KRUS that pays the pension and disability benefit (regional branch or local office of KRUS).

Persons who receive pensions from KRUS and ZUS should submit an application for a supplementary benefit to ZUS.

The application must be accompanied by (unless they are in the possession of KRUS) documents necessary to establish the right to a supplementary benefit, in particular:

  • a decision on total incapacity for work and inability to live independently or,
  • decision on incapacity for independent existence or,
  • a decision on total incapacity to work on a farm and inability to live independently or,
  • a declaration of total incapacity for service and inability to live independently,
  • in the case of persons entitled to a foreign pension or other foreign benefit of a similar nature – a confirming document law to these benefits and their amount, issued by a foreign institution competent for pension and disability pension matters;

A person applying for a supplementary benefit must also submit a declaration that he or she is not entitled to cash benefits financed from public funds or is entitled to such benefits, indicating the name of the granting authority and the amount of the benefits granted.

Welcome to the PLN 500 Benefit Circus!

Ah, the PLN 500 supplementary benefit – the gift that keeps on giving! Well, sort of. It’s designed as extra pocket money for folks who can’t live independently. Imagine struggling to survive and the government tosses you a -500 note like it’s confetti at a wedding you didn’t want to attend. Every time our friend the income threshold of PLN 2,419.33 gets breached, it’s like the government plays a game of Monopoly: “Ah, I see you’ve landed on ‘Exceed the Threshold’! Pay up, or… well, you know the drill.

But wait, there’s more!

The PLN 500 isn’t indexed. That’s right, it doesn’t grow or shrink – it’s like that stubborn friend who refuses to change since high school, stuck at the same amount forever. Want a raise? Good luck! Oh, you thought you’d add a bit of pizzazz with your financial woes? Nope!

The Rules of the Game

Let’s break it down because this benefit has more twists and turns than a Lee Evans comedy routine:

  • Agricultural pensions: They can award you anywhere from PLN 1,780.96 to 1,891.37. Fancy that! But hold on, the supplementary benefit remains locked at PLN 500. We see what you did there, government!
  • Care allowances: Get a little extra for caring, but don’t expect it to help much. The government’s watching, and don’t worry, they’ll make sure you don’t get too comfortable.
  • Other benefits: The PLN 500 isn’t your only option – or should we say, it’s quite the selective option! If you sniff any other cash benefits, be prepared for the PLN for PLN mechanism to kick in faster than you can say “not enough money!”

Who Gets the Candy?

Now, let’s be crystal clear. Only a select audience gets to enjoy this supple benefit, so if you’re out there thinking you can just stroll in after a hard day of doing… whatever it is you do, think again. If you’re not in the club of public cash benefits or foreign pensions, you might have a shot. Here are some criteria:

  • Totally incapable of work and independent living – this isn’t a self-help seminar, folks. We’re talking serious stuff here!
  • Other benefits? Only if they don’t exceed that tantalizing PLN 2,419.33. Keep the count on your fingers!

How Do You Get Your Piece of the Pie?

Want this glorious PLN 500? You better roll up your sleeves! Applications must be submitted to the relevant pension authority – the government equivalent of a scavenger hunt. You’ll need paperwork that says, “Yes, I’m utterly incapable, please help!” Choices include:

  • A decision stating total incapacity for work and inability to live independently.
  • Proof from foreign institutions if you’re straddling international waters.

And of course, don’t forget to declare what you’re already getting. Transparency is key unless you want them hunting you down like a bad horror movie plot twist!

Final Thoughts

Channel your inner detective, gather your documents, and don’t forget your sense of humor – you’ll need it! And remember, who needs independence when you’ve got government benefits giving you just enough to barely scrape by?

The supplementary benefit of PLN 500 serves as an essential financial lifeline for individuals struggling to maintain independent living due to incapacity. It is important to note that every time a recipient’s income exceeds the specified threshold of PLN 2,419.33, the “PLN for PLN” mechanism activates, effectively adjusting the benefit amount accordingly.

The examples were developed by KRUS. The entire study is below link. Readers pointed out that in the examples KRUS granted benefits such as permanent allowance in a situation where it also has its own income criterion

The PLN 500 supplementary benefit itself remains unchanged and is directly linked to the established income threshold.

Benefits:

2) A care allowance, which is received alongside the pension, totaling PLN 330.07.

Benefits: The total awarded agricultural pension is PLN 1,891.37,

The Municipal Social Welfare Center allocates a permanent benefit valued at PLN 400,

Effect on the PLN 500 benefit: Therefore, the supplementary benefit is adjusted to PLN 127.96.

Other benefits reduce the amount of the supplementary benefit

The supplementary benefit is accessible to individuals who do not qualify for cash benefits funded by public resources or whose total cash benefits, save for one-time benefits, combined with any foreign pension incomes, do not exceed the stipulated limit of PLN 2,419.33 per month.

1) A family pension is granted to children despite their age, provided they are completely incapable of work and independent living or completely unable to work before they reach the age of 16, or until they complete their education, up to 25 years of age if they are over that threshold.

The supplementary benefit is due in an amount not higher than PLN 500 per month, and the total amount of the supplementary benefit and cash benefits financed from public funds and foreign pension benefits, taking into account the exclusions referred to in the Act, cannot exceed PLN 2,419.33 per month.

Three examples illustrate this principle:

How to receive a supplementary benefit of PLN 500 for a dependent person

The entitlement to a supplementary benefit is confirmed upon request by the interested party, which must be directed to the authority responsible for processing their pension benefit (such as KRUS or ZUS). Individuals receiving a retirement or disability pension from KRUS must submit their application along with the relevant documentation to their local KRUS office, which is responsible for disbursing those benefits.

For those receiving pensions from both KRUS and ZUS, applications for supplementary benefits should be submitted directly to ZUS.

Essential documents must accompany the application unless already held by KRUS, which may include:

  • A decision declaring total incapacity for work and inability to live independently;
  • A decision regarding incapacity for independent living;
  • A ruling on total incapacity to work on a farm and inability to live independently;
  • A declaration confirming total incapacity for service and inability to live independently;
  • If applicable, documentation from a foreign institution providing proof of entitlement to a similar pension or benefit, including the amount.

Applicants must also provide a declaration confirming that they do not receive any cash benefits financed by public funds, or if they do, they must indicate the name of the granting authority and the amount received.
