Super Worlds Cycling Championships: Swiss Team’s Medal Hopes and Favorites for Glasgow 2023

2023-08-02 08:19:55

From now on, every 4 years, “Super Worlds” are organized, including almost all cycling disciplines. Glasgow is the scene of this great premiere from Thursday.

Swiss Cycling has selected more than 130 riders for this meeting in Scotland and hopes to win several medals. In mountain biking, Nino Schurter, legend of the discipline and world title holder, is one of the favorites along with Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel and Briton Tom Pidcock. Among the ladies, Jolanda Neff and Alexandra Keller can also aim for the podium.

Marlen Reusser and Cheffe de File

On the road, Swiss hopes will rest on Marlen Reusser, Stefan Küng and Stefan Bissegger. Reusser, who recently won the Tour de France time trial, will aim for his first world title next Thursday over 36 km, following 2 silver medals (2020/2021) and one bronze (2022). She will also have her chance in the road race.

The men’s time trial will be 48 km long, which may favor Küng. The 3 solo effort specialists will also have ambitions in the mixed team time trial, which they won last year with Mauro Schmid, Elise Chabbey and Nicole Koller.

The next Super Worlds will take place in the summer of 2027. The titles will then be awarded in Haute-Savoie.
