If you’re a cheese fan, you should definitely check your fridge. Several batches of the product sold in supermarkets across France were recalled on Friday due to listeria contamination in products sold between early July and early August. Have we learned from our colleagues at ActuFr?, Information from the government website RappelConso. Super U, Casino, Carrefour, Intermarché… the list of supermarkets involved is long.

Some recalls are local, such as the “Moelleux de St ours 500 g” produced by Schmidhauser, which affects only Carrefour and the Carrefour markets in Savoie (73) and Haute-Savoie (74). For example, the “Gourmet Scratch Trio” trays sold by Carrefour Montagny and U Express de Haute-Savoie also come from the Savoie producer Schmidhauser.

The list of infected cheeses from across France is much longer. The recalled products include Tomme “La Marguerite”, Tomme “La Céronnée”, Fonte AOP Raw Milk, Tomme de Savoie IGP LC 29% MG about 1.5 kg U Saveurs, Raclette Schmidhauser Smoke, Fonte U Saveur, rich in earth and flavor, Savoie Fondue with white wine, Tomme de Savoie Schmidhauser, and finally Grated Savoie Fondue of the same brand.

Same cause: Listeria

Announcements of products affected by Listeria are frequent, almost weekly. Consuming products contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes (the causative agent of listeriosis) can be fatal. It is resistant to low temperatures (4 degrees) and can reproduce in these conditions. As explained by the Pasteur Institute. It is not easy to spot it because Bacillus cannot be detected by taste or smell when consuming contaminated products. Raw foods such as cheese or cold meats are most affected.

The goal is not to fall into psychosis, just to stay alert. “There are only about 5 to 6 cases per million inhabitants per year, or about 400 cases per year,” and it is in fact a rare disease. As the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty indicates on its website.

Remind Conso gave some suggestions : People who develop “fever, isolated or accompanied by headache and body aches” after consuming one of the contaminated products are invited to “consult their primary physician and report this consumption”. Particular vigilance must be exercised in the elderly and/or immunocompromised people, as well as pregnant women who are at risk of “serious neurological complications and maternal or fetal damage”. The incubation period is up to eight weeks.

Savoyard has yet to respond to the withdrawal of sales of its dozens of products.
