Johannesburg: T20 series once morest South Africa for West Indies. Sandarshar won the match by seven runs at the Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg. After losing the toss, West Indies went into bat and scored 220 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated over. Romario Shepherd (44) and Nicolas Puran (41) were the stars of the West Indies line-up. In reply, South Africa’s struggle ended at 213 for six. Alzari Joseph took five wickets. West Indies won the first T20 in the three-match series. South Africa won the second match.
Risa Hendricks’ innings of 83 runs off 44 balls gave South Africa hope for the win. Riley Russo also shone with 42 runs off 21 balls. Quenton de Kock (21) is the first to return following giving a good start. But for the third wicket, Hendricks-Rousseau added 80 runs. But Jason Holder gave the Windies a break through by dismissing Russo. Russo’s innings included three sixes and four fours. Alsari dismissed David Miller (11) who came next. With this, South Africa were 149 for three in 14.2 overs.
Captain Aidan Markram joined Hendricks at the crease. Both were expected to succeed. 35 runs were needed in the last two overs to win. Alsari came to Panderia. Alsari returned Hendricks on the very first ball and in the same over he also returned Hendich Klaasen (6) and Wayne Parnell (2). Alsari conceded only nine runs. 26 runs were needed to win in the last over bowled by Raymon Reifer. Markram (35 not out from 18 balls) did his best with three boundaries but had to concede defeat. Bon Fortuny (0) remained unbeaten.
Windies had a bad start earlier. They were 39 for two following 3.3 overs. Kyle Myers (17) and Johnson Charles (0) also returned. But Puran’s co-stars came to the rescue. Puran hit four sixes and two fours off just 19 balls. Meanwhile, Brendan King (36) returned to the pavilion. Rowman Powell (11), Reifer (27), Holder (13) and Roston Chase disappointed in the middle order. Along with them, Puran also took wickets. West Indies at 161 for eight. Then the fight between Shepherd and Alzari (14 off 9 balls) gave Windies a huge score. Both of them remained unbeaten following adding 59 runs. Lungi Ngidi, Kagiso Rabada and Antich Norje took two wickets each.
