Los Angeles – The 2021/2022 NFL season is about to reach its grand finale: the Super Bowl 2022. It is the 56th Super Bowl and the football event of the year. On the night of February 13-14, the Los Angeles Rams will battle the Cincinnati Bengals for the coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy.

When is the Super Bowl 2022?
The Super Bowl 2022 will take place on the night of February 13th to 14th (Sunday to Monday). At 3.30 p.m. local time in Los Angeles is kick-off, i.e. the beginning of the NFL finals. For fans in Germany, that means staying up late. Because in Germany it is already 12:30 a.m. The best thing to do is: Drink plenty of coffee beforehand.
Where will the Super Bowl 2022 be held?
Actually, the Super Bowl 2021 should have taken place in Inglewood, Los Angeles. That was decided in 2016. But there were delays in stadium construction, so the last Super Bowl was moved to Tampa. But in 2022 the time has come: The Super Bowl 2022 will take place at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Inglewood is a city in Los Angeles County.
At five billion US dollars, the SoFi Stadium is currently the most expensive stadium in the world. It has 70,270 seats but can be expanded to accommodate up to 100,000. This will also be the case with Super Bowl LVI. The home teams of this stadium are both the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers.
Road to the Super Bowl: How the NFL works
If you want to move into the Super Bowl, you first have to complete a rocky road and get rid of some opponents. The NFL, i.e. the National Football League, is divided into two so-called conferences. The American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC) each consist of 16 teams. The so-called regular season comprises 17 games, in the end seven teams qualify for the playoffs.

The NFC and the AFC also complete the playoffs separately. These consist of three rounds in the knockout system. However, the top team from each conference from the regular season will receive a bye into the first round of the playoffs. The second best team plays against the seventh best, the third best team against the sixth best, etc. The third round is called the Conference Championship Game. The respective winners from NFC and AFC reach the Super Bowl.
Who is the current Super Bowl champion?
The Super Bowl 2021 was a first in NFL history. With the 31:9 win against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were not only the first team to win the Super Bowl in their own stadium, but also the first time they participated. Which teams are in the finals of the Super Bowl 2022?
In short: The Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals. Even though the 2022 Super Bowl in Los Angeles will be held at the Rams’ stadium, they are still the away team in the NFL Finals against the Bengals. Because officially the venue of the Super Bowl is rated as a neutral stadium, the role of the home team is assigned alternately. In even-numbered years, the AFC winner enjoys home advantage, in odd-numbered years, the NFC winner.

So the Los Angeles Rams are the away team in their own stadium in 2022. For the Cincinnati Bengals, home-court privilege means the primary decision on jersey color. The Rams have the right to use a coin toss for possession at the start of play and in the event of overtime.

The Super Bowl halftime show is legendary. Malicious tongues claim that quite a few viewers watch the NFL finals just because of that. Canadian music star The Weeknd performed at the 2021 Super Bowl. Super Bowl 2022 with or without spectators?
While the Super Bowl 2022 was recently threatened with cancellation due to Corona, this issue has now been resolved. Rather, it can be assumed that the SoFi Stadium will be occupied to the last seat. Los Angeles has been struggling with a sharp increase in the number of corona cases these days and weeks.
In 2021, just under 22,000 spectators were allowed to attend the Super Bowl due to the pandemic. The NFL doesn’t want to experience that again. Even during the regular season, all 32 NFL teams were allowed to plan with full stadium capacity. Strict protective and hygiene measures applied and apply to all spectators.
