NHL Rankings: Where Everybody’s a Winner (Except the Losers)

Alright, folks, gather ’round! We’re diving into the glorious world of NHL rankings, where the teams may vary in skill, but the opinions sure don’t! It’s like a family dinner where everyone has something to say—even the cat. Allow me to present the Super 16 Rankings, brought to you by the intrepid scribes of LNH.com. Hold onto your hockey helmets—this one’s a wild ride!

HERE’S HOW WE RANKED THEM:

JEAN-FRANÇOIS CHAUMONT, Senior Journalist LNH.com
1. Dallas Stars (-); 2. New York Rangers (-); 3. Toronto Maple Leafs (+4); 4. Florida Panthers (-); 5. Winnipeg Jets (+6); 6. New Jersey Devils (-1); 7. Boston Bruins (-4); 8. Vegas Golden Knights (-); 9. Utah Hockey Club (+4); 10. Hurricanes de la Caroline (+2); 11. Calgary Flames (so); 12. Vancouver Canucks (-2); 13. Kings de Los Angeles (so); 14. Edmonton Oilers (-8); 15. Wild du Minnesota (so); 16. Seattle Kraken (so)

Jean-François clearly loves the Texas teams—walking through the rankings like a proud parent on picture day. Meanwhile, the Edmonton Oilers took a nosedive faster than a skater on frozen January ice!

GUILLAUME LEPAGE, Journalist LNH.com
1. New York Rangers (+1); 2. Dallas Stars (-1); 3. Florida Panthers (-); 4. Calgary Flames (+2); 5. Toronto Maple Leafs (-1); 6. Winnipeg Jets (+6); …

Ah, Guillaume, a man who finds beauty in chaos—Rangers on top! But I bet he still thinks the Canadiens are the best team—mostly because they can’t seem to stay off the ice with all those penalty minutes!

NICOLAS DUCHARME, Journalist LNH.com
1. New York Rangers (+1); 2. Dallas Stars (-1); 3. Winnipeg Jets (+2); …

Nicolas just loves himself a good underdog and the Winnipeg Jets are like that friend who shows up at 2 a.m. with pizza and soda. Nicolas, remember, not all friendships have to endure the chaos of a late-night hockey game!

SÉBASTIEN DESCHAMBAULT, Editorial Director LNH.com
1. New York Rangers (+1); …

Sébastien must have either been blinded by the brilliance of the Rangers or is taking bets on how far they can fall this season. I mean, come on—he lists the Vancouver Canucks, and I can’t even find my spare lip balm half the time!

JOHN CIOLFI, Senior Producer NHL.com
1. Winnipeg Jets; 2. New York Rangers; …

Here comes John with a ranking that’ll have you questioning if he’s been at the rink too long! Winnipeg on top! That’s optimism at its finest. We call that a healthy dose of delusion—excellent for fandom!

HUGUES MARCIL, Operator LNH.com
1. New York Rangers (+2); …

Hugues says, let’s have a Belgian waffle party with these results! He’s cramming the Rangers like they’re a schoolboy before an exam. But those Tampa Bay Lightning…we could definitely use a shock therapy session-style pep talk!

PHILIPPE LANDRY, Operator LNH.com
1. Winnipeg Jets (+4); …

Philippe’s ranking is the perfect example of confusion—like trying to sort out a bag of mixed socks straight after laundry. But hey, someone’s got to love the Jets, and what better way than to rank them above the Maple Leafs? Groundbreaking theory!

GABRIEL DUHAMEL, Pupitreur LNH.com
1. New York Rangers (+3); …

Gabriel must have a “I heart the Rangers” sticker on his back bumper. He’s convinced the Rangers are the crème de la crème, yet puts the Oilers below a team inspired by cartoon characters! What a wild twist—now that’s comedy gold!

MARC TOUGAS, Independent contributor LNH.com
1. New York Rangers (+1); 2. Winnipeg Jets (+1); …

Marc wraps it all up, and it seems the Rangers are trending. The real question is—are they a good enough team to compare with a carton of milk that is well past its expiration date? Only time will tell!

NOTE: To establish the Super 16 rankings, each participating NHL.com staff member established their own ranking of the teams they believe are the current 16 teams in the League. Points were awarded according to their positions.

In conclusion, folks, despite all the numbers, debate, and passionate (sometimes passionate shouting) around these rankings, one thing remains crystal clear: whether you’re wearing a Dallas Stars hat or a Toronto Maple Leafs sweater, we’re all just trying to enjoy the game and predict who’s going to come up short this season! Remember, hockey is life, and all these rankings are just a reflection of our shared madness. So grab your popcorn, sit back, and enjoy the show—it’s bound to be entertaining!
