5G continues to go mainstream around the world, sometimes with surprising implementations. Sunrise UPC is thus developing its smart 5G offer by introducing a dedicated “Mobile Private Network” (MPN) solution on 5G in Switzerland in collaboration with the equipment manufacturer Nokia.

An MPN is a dedicated mobile network operated in a limited geographic area, such as a campus or large building, using cellular technologies (4G or 5G), which is installed and operated for the benefit of a specific enterprise customer or a specific community or location, such as an airport.

Ongoing tests at Syngenta

Basically, it is a dedicated private network designed to meet the high performance needs of an organization or company. MPNs can also support existing enterprise-critical services with LAN at their sites, providing secure, reliable and available connectivity.

Sunrise UPC says it has already started rolling out MPNs to several companies. In particular, a proof of concept is underway with Syngenta. The MPNs will form the basis of new applications within the framework of “intelligent” business concepts, the operator in American hands indicates in a press release.

High security

“MPNs ensure that critical operational data never leaves the company’s infrastructure, ensuring the highest possible security in communication between personnel, machines and different company sites,” says the second. Swiss operator, which still aims to compete with Swisscom.

For the record, 5G enables massive network capacity, especially for uses involving the Internet of Things (IoT). For example, it is possible to connect up to one million devices per square kilometer. In addition, Sunrise offers its customers dedicated service management and guaranteed service delivery.
