Sunil Gavaskar is one of the most legendary batsmen Indian cricket has ever seen. Gavaskar played 125 Tests and 108 ODIs for India and was part of the 1983 World Cup winning team. Gavaskar is the first player to complete 10,000 runs in Test cricket. Before Sachin surpassed the record in 2005, Gavaskar held the world record for most Test centuries (34).
The other day he shared an interesting sight from Gujarat with his fans on social media. Gavaskar saw a railway station in Gujarat named ‘Sachin’ and took a photo in front of it and shared it on Instagram.
Gavaskar’s humorous caption read, “These natives are far-sighted enough to have named a railway station in Gujarat almost a century ago following one of cricket’s all-time greats, who he loves very much.” This post went viral on social media in no time.
Many fans came up with interesting comments. “Sir, this is my village. This name Sachin has nothing to do with the original Sachin Tendulkar. This is a local station. No express trains stop there. What’s the point of a legend like you there?,” asked a fan. Another noted that it was a royal area in Surat and later became a business hub. “None of the fans recognize Sunil Gavaskar,” commented another fan.
Finally Sachin Tendulkar also commented below this post. “Thank you very much Gavaskar sir for your kind words. Anyway, very happy that the weather here is very sunny!,” Sachin noted. This funny reply was also enjoyed by the fans.
