NEW ORLEANS – South Alabama alumnus Gerald Everett scored his third touchdown of the year for the Los Angeles Chargers, as part of a four-catch, 43-yard day in Week 12 of the 2023 National Football League (NFL) season.
Six additional Sun Belt alumni accumulated 15-or-more yards on the offensive side of the ball, led by a two-catch, 49-yard outing for Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Jalen Tolbert out of South Alabama. Baltimore Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely out of Coastal Carolina amassed 40 yards on four catches, San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell out of Louisiana rushed for 39 yards on seven carries, Miami Dolphins running back Darrynton Evans out of App State rushed for 16 yards on two attempts and New York Giants running back Matt Breida out of Georgia Southern compiled 16 yards on three touches.
Southern Miss product and New York Jets wide receiver Jason Brownlee totaled 20 yards on the first two catches of his NFL career.
Six-tackle performances from Arkansas State alum and New Orleans Saints linebacker Demario Davis and Louisiana alumnus and Detroit Lions safety Tracy Walker III highlighted the defensive efforts from Sun Belt alumni.
Percy Butler (Louisiana, Washington Commanders) with four tackles and two passes defended, Akeem Davis-Gaither (App State, Cincinnati Bengals) with three tackles, Darrell Baker Jr. (Georgia Southern, Indianapolis Colts) with three tackles and Darrell Luter Jr. (South Alabama, San Francisco 49ers) with the first two tackles of his NFL career carded multi-tackle weeks.
On special teams, Louisiana alumnus defensive back Eric Garror had 16 punt return yards for the Tennessee Titans and App State product Sam Martin registered four punts for 171 yards for the Buffalo Bills.
The quartet of Sun Belt alumni kickers combined to go 10-for-13 on field goals and 10-for-10 on extra points. Arkansas State alumnus Blake Grupe of the New Orleans Saints hit from 52 yards out, while Georgia Southern product Younghoe Koo of the Atlanta Falcons and Georgia State alum Wil Lutz of the Denver Broncos were perfect on the week.
Eighty-seven Sun Belt alumni earned NFL roster spots entering the 2023 season, with 50 on active rosters, 17 on practice squads and nine on injured or other reserve lists in Week 12. Forty-two saw game action, with 19 earning starts for their respective clubs.
