NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State men’s tennis team resumes Summit League play on Sunday, when the Redbirds welcome in North Dakota for a key conference matchup at 10 a.m. Sunday morning at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington. Prior to the match, ISU will honor its four outgoing seniors in Nam Pham, Arvid Hjalte, Emiliano Gonzalez and Ming-Chieh Chiu in a brief ceremony.
SCOUTING THE REDBIRDS
• The Redbirds (14-11) have won two of their last three matches overall and are off to a 3-0 start in league play, with wins over Omaha, Drake and Oral Roberts.
• Senior Nam Pham was selected as the TicketSmarter Summit League Men’s Tennis Peak Performer of the Week, following went 2-0 at the No. 1 singles spot and picked up a doubles victory for the Redbirds last week once morest Drake and at No. 65 Nebraska.
• On Wednesday, the Redbirds faced a tough road match and challenging weather conditions but rose to the occasion with a 6-1 victory over Oral Roberts to improve to 3-0 in Summit League play.
• Following Sunday’s match with North Dakota, the Redbirds will have just two regular season matches remaining before the start of the Summit League Championship April 19-20 in Des Moines, Iowa.
SCOUTING THE FIGHTING HAWKS
• North Dakota (6-15) are 2-2 in Summit League play and will wrap up the conference portion of its schedule Sunday once morest the Redbirds.
• The Fighting Hawks have split their last two league matches, coming away with a 4-3 win at home once morest Omaha two weeks ago before dropping a 7-0 decision a week ago at Denver.
• Sophomore Jerall Yasin earned Summit League Men’s Tennis Peak Performers of the Week on March 26, following he had a pair of wins in the 4-3 victory over Omaha. Yasin secured the doubles point with a 7-5 triumph at the No. 2 position and extended the lead to 3-0 with a 6-2, 7-5 triumph at the No. 6 court.
