Driving on summer tires during the winter season in Russia has been recognized as a violation since September 1. Deputy Director of the Department of Consumer Rights Protection and Development of the Quality of Financial Services of Roskachestvo Igor Pozdnyakov recalled this.

“For such a violation you can receive a warning or an administrative fine of 500 rubles. Despite the fact that formally the winter period covers three months – December, January and February, it is recommended to install winter tires when the average daily temperature is 4-5 above zero,” Pozdnyakov warned drivers in a conversation with RT.
The interlocutor recalled that summer and winter tires differ from each other not only in the tread, studs and Velcro, but also in the composition of the rubber. “Summer ones are suitable for warm weather, but in cold weather they become stiff and become less effective even on a dry road. Winter ones, on the contrary, work better in cold weather and worse in warm weather,” the expert explained. According to him, summer tires are initially designed to drain water away from the point of contact with the road, while winter tires are designed for icy conditions.
