Summer, soaring costs and out-of-control prices. All the price increases in the Codacons complaint –

Telepass, airline tickets, hotels, beach resorts: for Italians, holidays marked by 360-degree price increases. This is what Codacons reports, which today released a study on the ‘crazy prices’ that characterize the summer holidays of 2024. The first bad news comes for those who will travel by car: from next July 1, in fact, the Telepass rates will increase, with the Base offer that will go from 1.83 to 3.90 per month (+113%), the Easy that will go from 2.50 to 4.64 euros per month (+85.6%), the Plus from 3 to 4.90 euros per month (+63.3%). Tolls and parking meters are also more expensive, having risen in the last month by +2.1% on an annual basis. Domestic flight ticket prices increased by 24.4% in just one month, international ones by +7.3%, while trains recorded a +9.3% increase over 2023, but if we only consider flight fares for the central week of August with destinations in the main Italian and foreign seaside resorts, the increases are in the order of +20% compared to summer 2023.

Another sore point is that relating to accommodation: the price lists of hotels, holiday homes, B&Bs and accommodation facilities in general, again for the period of August, record increases in the main Italian locations of between +15% and +25%. This is also due to the effect of the “dynamic prices” (similar to those of flights) adopted by a growing number of facilities: as demand grows, the rates of stays increase automatically. More contained are the increases of beach establishments, in the order of +5% in August, and of parks, museums and gardens, which rose in the last month by +2.1%.

And in the summer of 2024 there is no shortage of surprises linked to increasingly out-of-control prices: the Codacons monitoring highlights how a one-week stay for two people, from 10 to 17 August, can cost up to 77,504 euros if you choose an exclusive villa in Positano, 63,307 euros in Pula (Sardinia), 54,344 euros for a presidential suite in a structure in Bressanone, 39,242 for a week on a private yacht in Porto Cervo, 37,492 euros for a villa in Taormina, 30,124 euros for a chalet in Ortisei. If you then intend to reach an exotic and remote seaside location, it is better to first check the availability on your current account: a plane ticket from Rome to Port Moresby (Papua New Guinea) can cost up to 19,640 euros in August, depending on the carrier chosen and the connections; up to 15,970 euros for the flight to Honiara (Guadalcanal island), 15,152 euros for the flight to Apia (Samoa island).
