You don’t have to spend $1,000 a day to have a great vacation in Quebec, argues tourist columnist François Trépanier.

In an interview with LCN, he presented several ways to save on costs and avoid ending the summer in debt up to his neck.

Here are 5 tips for spending a great summer without breaking the bank:

Accumulate outings and activities in a single day, like the fictional family in the article in the Journalis not a good strategy, believes Mr. Trépanier.

“We might do each of the activities for a day that would still be a vacation activity,” he says.

The latter also gives the example of the fictitious family who went to the Granby Zoo.

“Someone who arrives at the opening, at 10 a.m., and leaves at 7 p.m…. We prepare two lunches, we have the animal park of course, we have the water park and we have the amusement park […] It’s still a bit of a 3 for 1 that we have for an outing, ”explains the tourist columnist.

“Yes it is interesting to go to sleep at the hotel. It’s always nice, but we also have to think of other alternatives. Often people have a tent. So, a campsite or unusual accommodation that will sometimes be a little cheaper. It can also save costs,” suggests François Trépanier.

The tourist columnist advises taking the time to carefully analyze our choices of activities, restaurants and accommodation before leaving.

In some regions, it is possible to buy passports giving access to several activities at a reduced price.

“It is important to consult the websites of regional tourism associations in Quebec. That way, you will really have all the information, ”claims François Trépanier.

Several blogs also offer itineraries and various tips to make the most of your time and money.

The choice of activities is important in order to save your wallet. Beyond libraries, public pools and water games, many festivals have a free portion.

In addition, museums, national parks and national historic sites can be an interesting option that is less expensive than other types of outings.

Adults often have little rest time at home during the rest of the year, while children spend a lot of time at school.

Choosing to spend time at home can be interesting, both for adults and children.

“To enjoy the house and play on the field, for them too it’s a vacation,” says Mr. Trépanier.
