Summer Game Fest – Full of conferences not to be missed

Like every year, the festival of conferences for publishers, manufacturers and other players in the video game sector will be in full swing throughout the month of June. E3, the former high mass of video games, is dead but Geoff Keighley you know Summer Game Fest have set out to take over for some time now, attracting the eyes of gamers around the world. This event has therefore become THE showcase for our favorite media, before going to bask in the pill at the beach. And this year once more, many conferences gathered around the Canadian animator will take place. Take out your diaries, the next few days will be loaded with announcements of the big games of tomorrow.

And we start this Monday, June 5 with, we cheat a little, a conference that is not directly related to video games, nor even to Summer Game Fest. But the arrival of Apple on the market for virtual and augmented reality headsets is likely to happen and, we imagine, make a lot of noise during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). Technologically, the device should be positioned as, by far, the most successful, with a 4K resolution on each eye in particular, but also as the most expensive since it would seem that a positioning around $ 3,000 would be to be considered. .

Wednesday June 7, at 6 p.m. on Youtube the Guerrilla Collective 2023 will be held. Fans of independent games should find their account here. Without being the conference that will mark the period the most, it is certain that some small nuggets will be presented, as every year. We think for example of Remnant 2, the sequel to Remnant: From the Ashes or Yomi 2 which mixes a fighting game and cards.

The day following, June 8, at 9 p.m., this will already be the highlight of the show, or at least the main course of this conference festival since this is when Twitch la Summer Game Fest which will, we hope, be more consistent than last year. This year we might see the presentation of the long-awaited multiplayer mode of The Last of Us 2 (whose only official visual of the game was presented last year), a new trailer for Death Stranding 2, or even, why not? , the first images of the additional content of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. With a show lasting almost two hours, and relations in good shape with the biggest studios across the globe, we can expect other nice surprises. And who knows, maybe PlayStation, a little shaken by the generally negative feedback following its Showcase, might have one or two major announcements in store for us.

The same evening, at 11:59 p.m. will start the Devolver Digital Showcase by the rockstars of independent gaming and double A. On the program, we will find the charming The Plucky Squire who was the sensation last year. We can easily imagine that Gunbrella, the supercharged 2D action game still planned for this year, will also be present. As always with the publisher, two or three other titles with artistic direction or very unique gameplay are also to be expected. All wrapped up in a completely crazy conference with the incredible actress Mahria Zook which will once more point the finger at the excesses of the video game sector. After the DLCs, the NFTs, the microtransactions, what will we be entitled to this time?

On June 11, from 7 p.m., it will be around Xbox to advance its pawns. After the missed meeting of its Japanese competitor, the American manufacturer has the possibility of making an impression with a conference broadcast on Twitch during which Phil Spencer will finally unveil some promising exclusives for his Series X and S. We are therefore waiting to see some sequences this week, and especially release dates, for titles such as Hellblade 2, Fable, Avowed, Everwild, Replaced and, with any luck, the exclusive title developed by Kojima Production whose code name might be “Overdose”. Finally, following this speech, we will be entitled to an event centered around Starfield, with undoubtedly long sequences of convincing gameplay.

Ubisoft will of course be a party to the Summer Game Fest with his Ubisoft Forward on June 12 at 7 p.m. to follow on Youtube. There will be a slew of Assassin’s Creed with Mirage, the “main” episode scheduled for October 12, Nexus, a virtual reality game for Meta Quest 2 and Codename Jade for mobile. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora should also leave its mark on the conference alongside The Crew and Skull and Bones which, let’s face it, does not unleash the crowds. But the big odds would be the presentation of his very big open world project in the Star Wars universe. The bets are open.

As you will have understood, these are the most important meetings of this Summer Game Fest, but other conferences of a more modest scale, or more specialized, will also take place. The Future Game Show (June 10 at 7 p.m.) for example systematically presented us with some very nice independent titles. PC lovers are also entitled to their space with the PC Gaming Show (June 11 at 10 p.m.). And let’s not forget the RGG Summit Summer (June 16 at 5 a.m.) which will be an opportunity to discover future projects around the excellent Yakuza license.

In a year 2023 on the way to being historic in terms of quality and density of play, all these conferences must remain in tune and launch this second half and the years to come with vigor. With the pandemic finally well behind us, the delays in the various studios have finally been resolved and everyone can gradually reveal their projects. A good number of studios should therefore finally be able to let go of their horses and we will eagerly follow each of the speeches to discover the surprises that we have in store. Sleep can wait until tomorrow.
