Game News Summer Game Fest 2022 – Warhammer 40,000: Can Darktide be the co-op FPS of the year?

Although we have known regarding the existence of Warhammer 40k: Darktide for almost two years now, the cooperative FPS developed by Fatshark was entitled to a new highlight during the Summer Game Fest 2022 through a new video. Something to make our mouths water with plenty of beheadings, team carnage, chainsaw cutting, and skulls on legs capable of hacking installations. There are definitely several reasons to wait for this title which will arrive “day one” in the Game Pass.
Violence, brutality, cooperation
After the Warhammer universe and its very nice Vermintide 1 & 2, it’s Warhammer 40,000’s turn to welcome its PvE coop FPS with elements of Hack’n slash with Darktide. Developed by the team usually in charge of Vermintide, this episode asks a squad of four players to retake the city of Tertium, on Atoma Prime, which has fallen under the assaults of belligerent enemies. The hive of Tertium indeed reigns over every corner of this city made up of polluting factories and filthy maintenance areas. It is up to the player to take on the heavy task of cleaning everything with a Kärcher, or rather a laser rifle.
Once users have created their character by choosing from several classes (Ogryn, Zealot, Veteran, Psyker) as well as different appearance options (skin color, voice, face), they are sent to a violent universe where hordes opponents follow one another, with the mission of fulfilling different objectives, some of which are randomly generated. In Darktide, firearms (or lasers) are in the spotlight, which does not prevent chainswords (among other things) from also being part of the game. As you will have understood, the studio is once once more aiming for sustained action where dozens of monstrous creatures are displayed simultaneously on the screen.
The Psyker in the spotlight
The trailer released at Summer Game Fest showed the classes in action and especially the devastating effects of weapons on poor opponents. The opportunity to see a huge rifle with a particularly fast rate, a guard movement to take less damage in the event of a hit, an electric hammer, a swift dagger, but also an area power that explodes according to the player’s will and an incantation allowing to decapitate the targeted enemy, two skills of the Psyker (the last class revealed). All under heavy electronic music that stains. The Psyker can also create shields and burn opponents with lightning. Fatshark assures that the gameplay of Warhammer 40,000: Darktide will offer effective synergies between classes.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide will be released on September 13, 2022 exclusively on Xbox Series X|S and PC. The game will be available from the day of its release in the Game Pass.
About the Summer Game Fest
What is Summer Game Fest?
No E3 this year, but we can still count on another world-class event: the Summer Game Fest, a big show dedicated to announcements of video games to come this year or the following years. It was in 2020 that journalist and host Geoff Keighley launched this now unmissable festival for the first time. Last year, the show featured stunning images from Elden Ring; so inevitably, the third iteration raises high expectations.
When does Summer Game Fest 2022 start?
The Summer Game Fest is this Thursday, June 9 at 8 p.m. The show will once once more be followed by a Day of the Devs session devoted to the independent scene.
How to follow the Summer Game Fest 2022?
On JV, we will react live to announcements from the LeStream channel alongside Maxildan and Aymeric Lallée in particular. The show will also be directly visible as a teaser on JV’s homepage. And for those who prefer reading, you will of course find our news throughout the conference. A written summary will also be available
What is the program for Summer Game Fest 2022?
Among the games not to miss, there is in particular the heir to Dead Space, The Callisto Protocol, which shows us its first gameplay images. For its part Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 presents us with its first level. Also on the program: Gotham Knights, Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course, the first game from Aaryn Flynn’s studio (ex-Bioware) Nightingale, the JRPG One Piece Odyssey, the free-to-play Warframe or even Planet of Lana. Geoff Keighley further announced: “We have a few new game announcements for this show and hopefully a few surprises if all goes well. But it’s definitely a show that mostly focuses on things that are foretold.”
