Nobody needs a cold in the summer, and yet it caught us recently. First there was a scratch in my throat, then my nose closed, and the nice plans to do a few laps in the outdoor pool once more at the weekend were over. Instead, we hung limply and with heavy heads in the armchair, soberly facing the fact that the matter would not be resolved overnight.
Colds in summer are particularly nasty because the body is exposed to large differences in temperature. The sick person quickly sweats outside, then sits in ice-cold, air-conditioned offices or freezes in the S-Bahn and subway. Sometimes, if it is still possible, the windows of the trains are tilted and the air drafts dangerously around the sensitive ears and neck.
Hated as a child: the steam bath
The anti-cold program, which is of course started immediately, then has a particularly difficult time. Hot tea with lemon, at least two pots a day, capsules with eucalyptus oil and nasal rinsing with salt – this triad usually gets a cold sufferer well on their way. Of course, with plenty of rest and sleep, if work allows it. And yet it takes time to get fit once more.
