Asunción, IP Agency.- The National Sports Secretariat (SND) and the Ministry of Education and Sciences (MEC) are advancing the organizational details for the most important intercollegiate sports event in the country, which are the National School and Student Games (JEEN) 2024.
Professionals from both institutions held a technical meeting this Thursday, an occasion in which they evaluated the various actions to be carried out for the socialization of the contest, the documentation for registrations and the competition calendar.
The director of Educational Sports of the SND, Cándido Argüello, announced that, among the actions to be carried out by the institution from next week, socializations in different locations stand out.
Professionals from the sports portfolio will work in coordination with Departmental Education Directorates to bring all the technical information of the contest to the entire country.
According to the work calendar established by the SND, the actions will continue from next week with the start of socializations in different locations.
Add sports as addiction prevention
In 2023, the JEEN achieved one of its key objectives with the presence in 17 departments and the capital, 209 municipalities and 4,781 participating educational institutions, with which the event demonstrated its national reach. In this sense, the numbers make the project an ideal space for promoting the actions of the Sumar Plan. 
During the meeting, representatives of the MEC expressed their interest in the JEEN being part of the Sumar Plan, Argüello explained at the end of the virtual meeting. The national intercollegiate tournament would be integrated into the government initiative, taking advantage of sports as a tool for education in values for the prevention of addictions.
Taking into account that the promotion of physical sports activities is one of the best tools to combat the various negative factors that affect our schoolchildren and students today, we are going to project actions so that the JEEN can be a platform for the Sumar Plan , he expressed.
A springboard to the international stage
Over the years, the JEEN have proven to be an ideal platform to promote sporting activity, inclusion and competitive spirit among youth. This event is also promoted as a milestone in the historical records of national student sports for being a source of inspiration for future generations of athletes.
The key point of the event is the definition of the national champions who will represent the country in the South American School Games, whose 2024 edition will be held in the Colombian city of Bucaramanga, in the month of December. Young talents will carry our nation’s banner into international competition and seek to stand out on the South American stage.
