Inauguration of the President
Written by Rainer Ackermann
The official ceremony for the inauguration of the new President took place in Buda Castle on Sunday followingnoon. “There is no greater honor than to serve the homeland, the nation,” said Tamás Sulyok in his inaugural speech.
Traditionally, the new President also greeted the Hungarians in the Carpathian Basin and around the world. In addition to his loyalty to his homeland affirmed by the oath of office and the noble obligation to serve the Hungarian nation, Sulyok emphasized his determination to uphold the Basic Law as a guarantor of the rule of law under all circumstances. In office he wants to follow the good, proven practices of his predecessors, but also “lay down road stones” of his own. As President, he represents the unity of the nation and watches over the democratic structure of the state.
The ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister and the Speaker of Parliament with their wives, former presidents and several ministers from the Orbán government.
