Former Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Sudirman Said is encouraged to register as a candidate for the leadership of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). Sudirman’s capabilities are considered proven.
“Many have integrity but are not necessarily brave, there are those who are brave but have not been tested when facing political power. Sudirman Said has been tested,” said constitutional law expert, Feri Amsari, in a public discussion in Central Jakarta, Sunday (14/7).
Throughout his professional career, Sudirman was seen as having many tasks to improve institutions, starting from the Indonesian Accountants Association (IAI), to Pertamina and even the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
Feri assessed that with this track record, civil society sees that Sudirman is the figure needed to fix the KPK. Including to support the future Prabowo Subianto government which is free from corruption.
“The new government to be formed by President-elect Prabowo Subianto needs a strategic partner who can strengthen governance, promote clean government, and eradicate corruption. This is needed to realize Mr. Prabowo’s campaign promises,” said Feri.
The chairman of the IM57+ Institute, Praswad Nugraha, also encouraged Sudirman. According to him, the KPK currently not only needs a leader with integrity, but also one who is brave and has good political mastery.

“Such criteria exist in Sudirman Said. We remember how he was not afraid of being removed from his position to fight Setya Novanto in the Papa Minta Saham scandal. Not long following, the KPK named Setnov a suspect,” said Praswad.
Registration for KPK leadership and supervisory board candidates is open until July 15, 2024. This selection will be carried out following the end of the term of office of the KPK leadership and supervisory board on December 20, 2024.
