Sudan – The Sudan Doctors Syndicate announced, on Sunday, 6 deaths and 61 injuries as a result of clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in North Darfur state (west).
The (non-governmental) Medical Syndicate said in a statement: “The number of victims who arrived at Al-Fasher Southern Hospital (governmental) as a result of the clashes taking place in the city since Sunday afternoon reached 6 deaths and 61 injuries, including an injury to a doctor while performing her work.”
El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, the center of the Darfur region, which consists of 5 states, its largest city, and the only one among the capitals of the other states of the region that did not fall to the Rapid Support Forces.
The statement added: “Causes are still arriving at the hospital, with there being an urgent need for blood donors and surgical equipment.”
Earlier on Sunday, the “El Fasher Resistance Committees,” which include civil activists, reported in a statement on their Facebook page that two people were killed and about 39 people were injured in El Fasher as a result of stray shells and ammunition resulting from clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces.
The Sudanese army controls El Fasher, and armed movements that signed the “Juba Peace” agreement with the government in 2020 are fighting alongside it, led by the “Sudan Liberation Forces” led by Minni Arko Minawi and the “Justice and Equality Movement.”
For its part, the Rapid Support Forces announced, in a post on its account on the “X” platform, the arrival of military reinforcements in North Darfur state.
The Sudanese army did not issue any comment in this regard until 20:45 (UTG).
On Saturday, the governor of the Darfur region, Minni Arko Minawi, said that for a whole week, the Rapid Support Forces continued their attack on safe villages in western El Fasher with the aim of displacing their residents in order to surround El Fasher with the aim of overthrowing it.
He added: “This caused the death of a large number of citizens, prompting the joint force of the armed movements to intervene to resolve the battle.”
Since mid-April 2023, the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have been waging a war that has left about 15,000 dead and more than 8 million displaced and refugees, according to the United Nations.
